If you are looking for a holiday apartment or holiday house in Arendole, you can choose your accommodation according to whether you are primarily planning historical insights, water-based experiences or peaceful days in the countryside.

Park and River Landscape

The Arendole Manor complex includes a century-old park. Arendole Park covers 6.5 hectares and, with several exotic species of trees and shrubs, offers an independent reason to visit the estate. Arendole Manor’s location on the banks of the Dubna adds a distinct landscape dimension to its historical character. Visits to Arendole Park should be arranged in advance – an important point to bear in mind when planning your day.

Boat hire is available at Arendole Manor. The 9 km boat route on the Dubna runs from Arendole to Vecvārkava. Those planning a trip with different interests can treat the park, the water and the historic rooms as separate focal points.

Manor House, Church and History

The manor house of Arendole Manor was built in the Historicist style and has been preserved since the last reconstruction in 1901. The manor also houses the only authentic collection of furniture and furnishings from the manor houses of Latgale. Another exhibition featuring a private collection focuses on key historical events in Latgale: the First World War from 1915 to 1918, the liberation of Latgale from the Bolsheviks in 1919 and 1920, the work of the border guard and police from 1920 to 1940, as well as the resistance movement and deportations in 1941. It also covers the Second World War in Latgale from 1941 to 1944 and resistance to the second Soviet occupation from 1944 to 1991.

The Catholic Church of Arendole is also part of the area’s history. It was consecrated in honour of the Virgin Mary in 1930. Its origins lie in a destroyed stone building that served as a carpenter’s workshop on the grounds of Arendole Manor and was acquired for the needs of the parish in 1926. A monument to Jānis Babris was unveiled in Arendole on 22 August 2010; a memorial stone for police officer Jānis Babris also stands on the grounds of Arendole Manor.

Arendole Manor offers a traditional black sauna. The manor house rooms and grounds can be used for events, celebrations and concerts. Local and seasonal produce is used predominantly in the preparation of the food. In this way, Arendole Manor brings together not only buildings and exhibitions, but also a historic setting, regional cuisine and distinctive forms of accommodation.
