Tīnūži combines manor history with the landscape of the Little Jugla and a variety of trails through the surrounding area. This gives you different options when planning your trip: you can explore the history of Tīnūži Manor, visit the cultural history centre, discover an island in the river or plan a longer route on foot, by bicycle, on horseback or on skis in winter.

Manor History and Cultural Discoveries

Tīnūži Manor was established in 1638; the estate included 16 farms. Most of the former buildings of Tīnūži Manor have been preserved. Visitors can see the estate’s farm buildings and the former brewery there. The manor administrator’s house, built in 1912, is also part of the historical character of the place. It is listed as an architectural monument of national significance.

Another focal point is the “Tīnūžu muiža” Cultural History Centre. It is housed in a barn built in the early 1930s. The permanent exhibition focuses on the battles fought by Latvian Riflemen at the Little Jugla in 1917. On display are previously unpublished photographs, weapons, uniforms and various objects found at the sites of the battles along the Little Jugla. If, during your trip, you want to do more than view historical places from the outside and would like to understand their context, this centre offers a distinct cultural activity.

River Landscape, Island and Former Park

The Little Jugla flows through Tīnūži Parish and past Tīnūži. The Lindenberg complex of Tīnūži Manor lies on the banks of the Little Jugla, among centuries-old oak trees and near a Livonian burial ground. The Ogres Kangari esker ridge also begins in the vicinity of Tīnūži. The grounds of the Tīnūži Manor centre are distinguished by an unusual relief.

Only the outlines of the historic park of Tīnūži Manor remain today. A restored suspension bridge leads to Tīnūžu-muižas Island. Tīnūžu muižas saliņa formed naturally in the middle of the Little Jugla and is one of the picnic and recreation sites in Ogres Municipality. The island has a shelter and a barbecue or fire pit, but no toilet. This information will help you prepare for a visit there that fits your day’s plans.

Trails for Active and Varied Holiday Days

The Green Way “Rīga – Ērgļi” runs through Tīnūži. The 98-kilometre route follows a former railway line and is suitable for cycling, hiking, horse riding and cross-country skiing in winter. The route consists mostly of gravel or forest roads and is marked with kilometre and trail signs. This allows you to take your preferred mode of transport and the condition of the route into account when planning your trip.

There is also a longer option on the water: the Suntaži–Turkalne canoe route on the Little Jugla is approximately 28 kilometres long and takes 6–7 hours. It is therefore suited to a day for which you want to plan a continuous stretch on the water. Together with the Green Way, it creates a destination where cultural history visits and active days can be combined in different ways.
