Solagna combines trails with local history. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Solagna, within a compact thematic area you will encounter a hermitage on the mountain ridge, a very old church, traces of silk processing, lime kilns and memories of the First World War. A local festival tradition and a route along the road to Campese are also among the features that make the town interesting for varied holiday days.

Eremo di San Giorgio and trails along the mountain ridge

The Eremo di San Giorgio has been documented since 1571. It is located at an elevation of 460 metres on a rock and on a mountain ridge that forms a natural barrier on the left bank of the Canale di Brenta. It can only be reached on foot via a well-maintained path and takes about 30 minutes from the town of Solagna. This makes it particularly easy to include the site in a day plan in which physical activity and scenery are given equal importance.

Several trails give the surrounding area different character. The Sentiero CAI 944 begins in Località Mattecci and leads to the Eremo di San Giorgio and the Cresta di San Giorgio. The Sentiero del Torrion runs downhill through the forest to Località Bresagge and passes the Croce del Torrion on a rocky outcrop overlooking Solagna. Connecting trail 940 links Campo Solagna and Finestron; the connection runs between Solagna and San Nazario. The different trail routes make it possible to distinguish between active days and shorter explorations.

Church, art and regional history

The Chiesa di Santa Giustina was rebuilt around 1850. It is considered the oldest church known to exist in the Canale di Brenta and dates back to the early Christianisation of the area. Inside is a depiction of Saint Justina by Francesco da Ponte il Vecchio. In this way, the church building combines a specific history of reconstruction with an artwork of notable art-historical importance.

The Filanda Secco also tells the story of changes in local work. The building was constructed in 1852 as a silk spinning mill and became a tobacco warehouse and storage facility in 1895. Another historical trace leads to the lime kilns: in the 20th century, Solagna had two active lime kilns. The restored second lime kiln of La Calcara di Solagna is located near the ruins of the Torre di Solagna. It includes an artificial cave that served as a powder magazine for the quarry.

The Ezzelini built the Bastia on the 350-metre-high summit of the Bastia. The Piccolo Museo 1915-1918 “Roberto Favero” offers another perspective on the past. It displays uniforms, helmets, weapons, insignia, personal belongings and other relics of troops of all nationalities represented in the conflict on the Colli Alti. The museum is located at the Albergo S. Giovanni at Via Collalto 28.

Local tradition and regional connections

The Immacolata-Concezione festival in Solagna is associated with the “sagra del mandorlato”. For regional orientation, route RV 9 – Brenta Veneto is also worth considering: within the municipality of Solagna, it follows the road to Campese. Together with the hiking trails, this creates a range of destinations accessible on foot in the mountains, historic sites and a regional road connection.

Choosing the right holiday apartment in Solagna

When choosing a holiday apartment in Solagna, you can use your preferred daily rhythm as a guide. Anyone planning the walk to the Eremo di San Giorgio or one of these trails will have different priorities from someone who wants to combine the Chiesa di Santa Giustina, the Filanda Secco and the Piccolo Museo 1915-1918. The information on starting points, trail routes and local connections makes it easier to plan independently, without all experiences having to follow the same excursion pattern. The route to Campese and the connection between Solagna and San Nazario can also be included in your considerations if you are looking for accommodation for different types of holiday days.
