Holiday apartment in Sarcedo: hiking and historic sites

Holiday apartment in Sarcedo amid hills and culture

Sarcedo combines activity in the countryside with historic sites, offering different reasons for a varied stay. The permanent hiking trail Percorso permanente Sarcedo comprises three signposted hikes of 8, 12, and 20 kilometers. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can take your preferred daily plans as a guide: the different trail lengths allow for shorter and longer hiking days, while the cultural destinations offer opportunities for independent discovery.

Hiking through the countryside

The 8-kilometer route of the Percorso permanente Sarcedo leads through the surrounding hills and the rural landscapes of Sarcedo. It is precisely this combination of a manageable distance, hilly terrain, and rural surroundings that makes the route a practical starting point for planning your excursions. The 12- and 20-kilometer hikes supplement the offer with longer versions of the same permanent hiking trail.

Villas with a history of their own

Villa Capra Bassani was built in 1764 by the architect Count Orazio Capra. The neoclassical villa is clearly inspired by Palladian architecture. Villa Tretti offers a different historical connection: it was built in 1884 on the hill where Sarcedo’s old castle had previously stood.

Villa Ca’ Dotta also offers two historical and thematic perspectives. It was first mentioned in writing in the second half of the 15th century. The villa houses multimedia workshops for children and young people aged 11 to 19, as well as for parents, teachers, and education professionals. The topics covered include physical activity, nutrition, alcohol, and smoking. This makes it an interesting place for families, where a historic setting and educational programs on specific topics come together.

Churches and sacred art

The Baroque interior of the parish church of Sant’Andrea preserves, among other works, “Vergine e Santi” by Alessandro Maganza (approximately 1556–1630), “Crocifissione di Sant’Andrea” by Giovanni Battista Mariotti (around 1685–1765), “Madonna e Santi” by Francesco Verla (documented 1490–1520), and “Transito di San Giuseppe” by Antonio De Pieri from the 17th to the 18th century. The church of San Pietro in Bodo was first mentioned in an old document in 1292; however, its construction demonstrably took place earlier. Thus, a stay in Sarcedo leads from the appreciation of art to a sacred history reaching further back in time.

Industrial history at the Verlata

A three-wheeled mill already stood at the site of the Lanificio Beaupain on the Verlata in 1644. In 1648, it was converted into a paper mill, and in 1885 into a simple wool-processing facility. This sequence makes the site an illustrative example of changing uses over several centuries. Together with Villa Tretti, the site broadens the perspective from representative architecture to Sarcedo’s history of work and production.
