Sandrigo Between History and Culinary Delights

Sandrigo combines historic buildings, regional cuisine and scenic destinations to create a diverse travel destination. When choosing a holiday apartment in Sandrigo for your trip, you can focus on culture, the annual festival or views and nature experiences in the surrounding area. Since 1989, the Festa del Bacalà alla Vicentina has been held every year in Sandrigo. Buildings with a History of Their Own

Palazzo Mocenigo was built in the late 16th century in the centre of Lupia. After it was acquired by the municipality of Sandrigo in 1988, the palazzo was restored. The Oratorio di San Francesco di Paola houses a Rococo altar made of white stone from the Berici Hills. Together, these buildings represent different facets of architectural history and craftsmanship.

The Oratorio Trissino and the villas of Sandrigo provide further historical highlights. The Oratorio Trissino in Sandrigo was commissioned in 1610 and is dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. Villa Mascotto was built in the 17th century in the hamlet of Ancignano; over time, particularly in the 19th century, it was remodelled and renovated. Villa Sesso Tonolli Bordignon is an old Gothic-style villa. Work carried out in the 18th century gave the present complex, with its main building, the Oratorio San Gaetano and a barchessa, its current appearance.

Churches in Sandrigo and Lupia

The Church of Santa Maria e dei Santi Filippo e Giacomo has a Latin-cross floor plan, a large dome and a Baroque façade inspired by Palladian architecture. The parish church of Santo Stefano in Lupia is a well-preserved example of the flourishing Gothic architecture and has largely retained its original 15th-century appearance. San Pancrazio in Ancignano was built and consecrated in 1531; however, the complex is considered older and is dated approximately to the 13th century.

The area around Sandrigo also includes Palazzo Cornaggia, a palace; the Padiglione Fieristico, a museum; Giuseppe Denti, also a museum; and Castello di Thiene, a castle. In addition, the fishing concession of A.S.D. Bacino Astico Leogra covers the Torrente Astico, including its tributaries and outflows, from the village of Ristel in the municipality of Lastebasse to the bridge on the S.P. 248 in the municipality of Sandrigo.
