Holiday apartment in Montegaldella: River Landscape, Villas and Ciclabile del Saluto

Montegaldella between river landscape and cultural heritage

Montegaldella lies in a flat area crossed by the Bacchiglione River. Along the Ciclabile del Saluto, 20 information panels explain the origins and history of the greeting. The route is accessible by bicycle or on foot. When planning the Ciclabile del Saluto, the accessible route and its thematic connection to the town hall can be considered together. In Montegaldella, the two-metre-high Monumento del Saluto also stands in front of the town hall as a bas-relief made of Berici stone. The Monumento del Saluto is described as the world’s first monument to “Ciao”.

Villas, churches and historic places

At Villa Ragona in Ghizzole, Girolamo Ragona commissioned Palladio to build a palace at his rural residence. The main structure of Villa Ragona was built between 1553 and 1555. Villa Conti Lampertico Campagnolo – La Deliziosa – was built in 1622 by Count Piero Conti and his descendants, although it was not completed. There is also a time gap of almost seven decades between Villa Ragona and La Deliziosa. Its garden contains numerous statues of masks from 18th-century Italian theatre, attributed to Orazio Marinali and his workshop. La Deliziosa is privately owned and not open to the public.

The old parish church of S. Michele Arcangelo in Montegaldella probably dates back to the Lombard period. The parish church is 61.45 metres high and has a peal of 12 bells played by ropes. A group of bell ringers operates and maintains the bells and has been active since 1980. La Ghiacciaia dates from the first half of the 18th century and was formerly used by the entire community to store food.

Experiences between cycle path and events

The old Ghiacciaia of Montegaldella is used by Ghiacciaia in Arte as a venue for cultural events. The old Ghiacciaia thereby combines its former communal function with use for cultural events. Organised by Pro Loco Montegaldella, the 15th edition of the Festa della Zucca takes place in Ghizzole in the second half of September. Parco San Daniele is located in the vicinity of Montegaldella.

Villas, museums and mountains in the surrounding area

Several different cultural attractions are located around Montegaldella: Villa Montruglio is a palace, and Villa Emo Capodilista is also a palace. Villa dei Vescovi is a museum, as is the Museo Civico - Villa Comunale Roberto Bassi Rathgeb.

Mount Monte della Madonna is located near Montegaldella, as is Mount Monte Venda. The natural arch Arco Vallaresso lies in the wider regional surroundings of Montegaldella. The spatial scope differs among the landscape attractions: the two mountains are nearby, while Arco Vallaresso is in the wider regional surroundings.
