Holiday apartment in Lusiana amid culture, mountain nature and trails

Lusiana brings together local history, crafts, art and mountain scenery in a closely interconnected way. At the centre is the Chiesa di San Giacomo, which, together with its bell tower, forms the eastern side of Piazza IV Novembre. The bell tower was built at the end of the 19th century. From its belfry, visitors can see the landscape of the Altopiano di Asiago; on clear days, Monte Cimone and Parco del Sojo are also visible. This creates a place where impressions of cultural history merge with views across the plateau.

Crafts and local history in Lusiana

In the Area Labioli e antichi lavori del bosco, you can visit the charcoal burner's dwelling with demonstration charcoal kilns, the woodsman's hut with its “biode” and “fogolaro”, the lime kiln, and water basins carved into the rock known as “labioli”. The Museo Palazzon is located in the heart of Lusiana, in a 17th-century building. Part of its exhibition is devoted to traditional straw processing: “fastughi” were used to make “sporte” and “capei”.

Sculptures, animals and alpine plants

Parco del Sojo Arte e Natura is located in the vicinity of Lusiana and is one of the museums; as a private park, it covers approximately 8 hectares and displays more than 80 contemporary sculptures along paths and old mule tracks. Above the Biblioteca di Lusiana, the Museo della Fauna Alpina provides knowledge about mountain animals and the traces they leave in the forests. Together, these two themes complement local history with open-air art and the wildlife of the mountains.

In the Monte Corno area, the Giardino Alpino “Dario Broglio” is located in an area recognised as a Sito di Importanza Comunitaria (S.I.C.). More than 500 herbaceous plants, shrubs and trees typical of the mountains of the Province of Vicenza grow there, including rare or locally occurring species of the plateau. In the surroundings of Lusiana, Villa Piovene and Villa Godi are among the palaces, Castello Superiore is the castle, Cave di Rubbio is the cave, and Monte Alberelli, Col d'Astiago and Col del Gallo are the mountains.

Trails and places of remembrance

The Cimitero Militare Britannico di Granezza is one of five British cemeteries on the Altopiano di Asiago7Comuni. It was established shortly after the end of the conflict, is protected by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and contains a total of 1,024 fallen soldiers. “La Grande Guerra” covers the British and French sectors as well as the resistance line in the Monte Corno area.

For outdoor activities, the fully signposted nature trail on Monte Corgnon leads from Val Fontana along the slope and summit of Monte Corgnon through the forest to the Villaggio Preistorico on the ridge. Guided visits to the Pestarino dei Togna, the Maglio di Valli di Sotto and the Mulino Garzotto are possible by reservation; all three are part of the Museo Diffuso di Lusiana.
