Fossò presents itself as a multifaceted travel destination with religious art, historical architectural heritage and a route along embankments. A holiday apartment in Fossò brings various discoveries into focus: heritage sites in Fossò and Sandon, museums in the surrounding area, and natural and garden destinations in the nearby and wider regional surroundings. You can therefore choose your accommodation according to whether culture, a route or green spaces is to be the focus of your stay.

Churches, frescoes and traces of the past in Fossò

In Fossò stands the Antica Parrocchiale di San Bartolomeo del ‘700. It was consecrated on 8 September 1335. The ceiling fresco “La gloria di San Bartolomeo” is attributed to Giambattista Canal in more recent art-historical research. Another special feature is a bronze figure from the 4th century BC found in Fossò. Diego Mazzetto discovered it and donated it to the municipality of Fossò; it is displayed in a showcase in the municipal library. The Chiesetta della Beata Vergine del Rosario contains frescoes with votive depictions.

Churches and villas in Sandon

In Sandon, Villa Caffrè was built by the Caffrè family in the second half of the 17th century; it is currently in a severely deteriorated state. The Church of San Giacomo probably has Romanesque origins, and its existence is documented by the 13th century at the latest. In the mid-18th century, it was extensively enlarged and restored. On this occasion, the ceiling fresco depicting the apparition of Our Lady of the Pillar before the Apostle James was created. The main altarpiece, a work by Giovanni Battista Pellizzari (1598–1660), depicts the apparition of the Madonna with the Christ Child before the Apostle James. In the background, the walls of Verona and the Adige can be seen.

A route along embankments

The approximately 25 km route “Tra le Ville della Riviera e la Terra dei Tiepolo” runs along embankments and passes through Fossò. In Fossò, it includes an 18th-century church, the rectory from the same period and the trifora window of Ca’ Pisani. This is considered the only surviving element of Fossò’s former bishop’s palace. The approximate length and course of the route provide a rough orientation if you would like to include it in your travel plans.
