San Giorgio delle Pertiche lies almost at the centre of the Roman Graticolato “Cis Musonem”.

Castle Site and Ecclesiastical Tradition

In the location of today’s Chiesa Arcipetrale di San Giorgio delle Pertiche, there was a castle in the Middle Ages. It was enclosed by four towers and a curtain wall. Today, the church stands there. The former fortification and the present church site therefore belong to the same location.

The Chiesa Arcipetrale di S. Giorgio has been mentioned as a Pieve, meaning a parish church, since the first half of the 13th century. It contains several works created by the Venetian painter Palma il Giovane between 1580 and 1590. The ecclesiastical tradition thus extends from the Middle Ages to the art history of the late 16th century.

The base of the Torre millenaria consists of Roman and Lombard bricks.

Historical sites such as the church, tower and former railway corridor do not represent the same period: the castle and Pieve date back to the Middle Ages, the works by Palma il Giovane to the years 1580 to 1590, and the railway line to the region’s transport history after the Second World War.

Parco Guizze and Oasi Rossato

Parco Guizze is a 20th-century park covering approximately 17,000 m². It is home mainly to plant species typical of the Po Valley, especially ash, hornbeam and willow trees.

Oasi Rossato provides a habitat for birds, mammals, amphibians and insects. In principle, it is not accessible; exceptions apply on certain days designated by the municipal administration and only for small guided groups. This restriction is decisive when planning a day in nature: without such an exceptional day or a small guided group, access is not provided.

Parco Guizze and Oasi Rossato represent two different nature themes within the municipality. The park focuses on vegetation typical of the Po Valley, while Oasi Rossato focuses on habitats for several animal groups and on expressly limited accessibility.

Cycling Route on a Historic Railway Line

The Treviso–Ostiglia cycling route crosses the entire municipal area of San Giorgio delle Pertiche. It was created on the restored route of the historic Ostiglia–Treviso railway, which was closed after the Second World War.

The historic railway line connects the cycling theme with the area’s transport history. For a cycling tour with a historical focus, this makes it possible to consider together the route through the municipal area and its former use as a railway line.

Antica Fiera di Arsego in October

The Antica Fiera di Arsego has taken place every third Sunday in October since 1747. Thus, a traditional annual event is part of the calendar of San Giorgio delle Pertiche.

For annual planning, the third Sunday in October is the Fiera’s decisive date.
