Holiday Apartment in Conselve: History, Villas and Fiera di Sant’Agostino

Conselve combines sacred art, historic villas, a traditional festival and its inclusion in the Bagnoli Friularo DOCG production area. The Duomo di San Lorenzo and several historic villas offer insights into the town’s history, while the Fiera di Sant’Agostino adds festive events to these attractions.

Churches and Art History in Conselve

The present-day Duomo di San Lorenzo was built between 1720 and 1748 and consecrated by Cardinal Carlo Rezzonico, who later became Pope Clement XIII. The church is also known as the Duomo di Conselve and stands on the remains of an old parish church dating from around 900 AD.

The Duomo di San Lorenzo houses an altarpiece depicting the Martyrdom of Saint Lawrence, dating from the early 17th century. Following restoration, it was attributed to the school of Tintoretto. The Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista Decollato di Palù was built in 1574 at the instigation of Giovanni Lazara, extensively restored in 1647, 1733 and 1968, and has step-free access on the ground floor.

Historic Villas and Changing Architectural Histories

Villa Conti-Schiesari was built in the first half of the 16th century by the noble Conti family on a site where Conselve Castle, dating from the 11th century, probably stood. It was expanded and altered in the 17th century. An institute operated in the same building from 1942 to 1970.

Palazzo Schiesari Bergonzini dates from the first half of the 17th century. Palazzo Ferrante Deganello was formerly also known as Michiel, Suman, Moschini and Buniolo and was built by the Venetian noble Michiel family at the end of the 16th or beginning of the 17th century. Its interior façade dates from the 16th century and opens onto a large garden.

Villa Malipiero-Morosini-Cavalli-Cappello is now known as Villa Schiesari; its present form dates from the 18th century. Villa Zane Bellegno was built by the Zane family and passed to the Bellegno family in 1630. It is probably thought to have originated in the mid-16th century. Villa Ca’ Sagredo was built by Giovanni Sagredo from 1660 onward, initially designed as a hunting lodge and later transformed by Piero Sagredo into a grand country residence.

Fiera di Sant’Agostino and Bagnoli Friularo DOCG

In 2026, the Fiera di Sant’Agostino reached its 447th edition in Conselve. During this edition, open workshops were offered at the Villaggio Fiera. There was also a food stall run by the Pro Loco.
