Holiday apartment in Trequanda: town center, Castello and hilly landscape

Trequanda is situated on a hill between the Val d’Asso and the Val di Chiana.

Historic center, gates and early traces

The historic center of Trequanda is intact and partly surrounded by walls. It can be accessed through the preserved Porta al Sole or Porta al Leccio. The Church of Santi Pietro ed Andrea is Romanesque. Trequanda has archaeological finds dating from between the 3rd and 1st centuries BC. For those interested in culture, Trequanda therefore encompasses buildings, archaeological finds and terracotta as distinct themes.

Castello Cacciaconti, tower and terracotta

Castello Cacciaconti has an Italian garden. It also features a tall white-stone tower and battlemented walls. A particular detail is the Torre del Molino a Vento: it is a dovecote dating from the late 18th century and contains around 500 terracotta nests arranged in a checkerboard pattern.

The Museo della Terracotta in Petroio illustrates the continuity between ancient terracotta-making techniques and more recent production methods. The chronological context there ranges from ancient processes to more recent forms of production.

5 km route, celebrations and music

A 5 km route starts and ends at the car park on Via Cacciaconti. On foot, it takes two hours, or one hour by bicycle. The distance remains 5 km in both versions, while the time required changes according to the chosen means of transport.

In May, Trequanda holds celebrations in honor of Blessed Bonizzella Cacciaconti. One of the traditional events of the celebrations was a pilgrimage to Belsedere on Sunday, May 3. The celebrations also included walks through the hills of Trequanda.

This edition of the celebrations saw the “Contesa delle Porte” introduced for the first time, a competition between Trequanda’s three contrade. The celebrations therefore include the pilgrimage, walks through the hills and the competition between the three contrade.

The second edition of the Cacciaconti Music Festival included a chamber music concert by the Quartetto Indaco at Castello Cacciaconti in Trequanda. Alongside the celebrations, chamber music was therefore also among the events held at the Castello.

The “Del Sole” Municipal Pool offers relaxation, swimming courses and numerous summer activities.

Rural character, landscape and regional themes

The cultural landscape Paesaggio Policulturale di Trequanda was officially added to Italy’s national register of historic rural landscapes by a decree issued in February 2018. The designation refers to a historic rural landscape of Italy.

The Trequanda area is also connected with the Città dell’Olio network.
