Thermal waters, trails and history in Chianciano Terme

Chianciano Terme combines thermal traditions, historical sites, landscapes and regional specialities to create a wide range of holiday experiences. Thermal parks and wellness, short MTB routes, cultural discoveries in the historic centre and culinary impressions are presented here as distinct themes. This means that a stay can alternate between thermal waters, exercise, history and regional cuisine.

Etruscan history in the historic centre

The Museo Civico Archeologico delle Acque di Chianciano Terme is housed in the heart of the historic centre in a former 19th-century granary. The museum contains the world’s most important collection of Etruscan canopic jars, meaning human-shaped ash urns.

The Castello dei Conti Manenti is also known as il Monastero and is located in the historic centre of Chianciano Terme. The Torre dell’Orologio is also located in the historic centre of Chianciano Terme.

Thermal baths for active and relaxing holidays

The Terme di Chianciano thermal complex comprises the Fucoli and Acqua Santa thermal parks. At Parco Fucoli, visitors can bathe in thermal waters outdoors and enjoy mud therapy. The Terme Sensoriali offer 20 different wellness experiences, including relaxation pools, aromatherapy, chromotherapy, music therapy, a calidarium, a Turkish bath and experience showers.

MTB routes around Chianciano

The Sentieri di Chianciano consist of three short, interconnected routes. They allow guests of the thermal centre to explore the landscape around Chianciano. They include Sentieri della Nonna, Sentiero del Bosco and Sentiero della Poesia. Together, the trails cover just over 13 km and 373 metres of elevation gain; they run at an altitude of 450 to 580 m. An MTB must be used on these routes.

Another option is the Percorso delle acque in Chianciano Terme, designated as 24E6. It leads to the sites of the famous thermal waters, is 7.4 km long and has 239 metres of elevation gain. The maximum altitude is 686 m. The route is suitable for everyone; using an MTB is recommended.

Landscape and regional specialities

The Pietraporciana nature reserve lies on the 847 m-high ridge between Chianciano Terme and Sarteano.

Local cuisine also offers discoveries of its own. Frantoio La Macina organises gastronomic tastings featuring typical products, with extra virgin olive oil at the centre. Visitors can also see a wooden olive press dating from the 16th century and a special collection of historical objects. Torta di Chianciano Marabissi is appreciated by Chianciano residents and holiday guests and has been a firmly established part of the local pastry-making tradition for more than half a century.
