GTE trails on different scales

A considerably shorter stage runs from Poggio to Pomonte: It is 9.26 kilometres long and takes an average of around 4 hours and 40 minutes. The Percorso della Valle di Pomonte also has its own distinctive character. The circular trail does not remain within the village, but leads through the Valle di Pomonte, takes Trail No. 109 after a short section of the GTE Sud, and reaches the watershed with Vallebuia. On the southern GTE stage between Poggio and Pomonte, two caprili can be seen in the Località Le Mure. To reach the western GTE starting points, first take a ferry to Portoferraio and then a scheduled bus operated by Autolinee Toscane to Pomonte; the route is numbered 116.

Coast, beach and the wreck of the Elviscot

The rock Scoglio dell’Ogliera lies 200 metres off the beach and is a popular destination for divers and snorkellers because of the wreck of the Elviscot on the seabed beside it. The wreck lies at a depth of 3 to 12 metres and is clearly visible. From dell’Ogliera Beach, it can be reached by scuba diving, swimming, canoe or pedal boat. The first beach reached from the village of Pomonte consists of gravel and stones rounded smooth by the sea, and has particularly clear water.

On foot or by bicycle into the national park

From Pomonte, you can set off on foot or by bicycle into the Tuscan Archipelago National Park. The Percorso di San Bartolomeo leads to a plateau near Monte di San Bartolomeo, where the ruins of a Romanesque church of the same name can be found.
