Poggioreale combines the Sicilian hinterland, distinctive architecture and historical traces. Nuova Piazza Elimo is the centre of urban life in Poggioreale Nuova. The square was designed in 1988 by architect Paolo Portoghesi and features expansive, circular architecture in the Neoclassical style. It is intended to recreate an ancient agora. Artistically decorated colonnades with four caryatids by Paolo Borghi define the architectural character.

Historic sites between the old town and the town centre

Poggioreale Antica preserves not only a recognisable urban fabric, but also several tangible testimonies to its history. The Chiesa di Sant'Antonio da Padova in Poggioreale Antica is dedicated to the town's patron saint and dates back to 1860. The Chiesa Madre was previously the Chiesa del Purgatorio, which dates back to 1540; on 24 November 1697, the Chiesa Madre was solemnly consecrated.

Palazzo Morso Principe also leads back to the town's earlier history. The building was the first settlement nucleus of Poggioreale, belonged to Marquis Francesco Morso di Gibellina and dates back to the 17th century. Casa Agosta, by contrast, is a residential building that belonged to the Agosta Tamburello family. It is particularly significant because of its location near the entrance to the town on Corso Umberto Primo.

Museum, Monte Castellazzo and rural landscape

Poggioreale's Museo Etno-antropologico is affiliated with the municipal library. It documents the predominantly agricultural character of the population through tools, equipment and objects from fields, workshops and domestic life. The museum also preserves the local “vertuli” and “gerle”, as well as part of the archaeological material from Monte Castellazzo.

The landscape around Poggioreale is suitable for rural tourism and hiking. The local attractions also include the Area Archeologica di Monte Castellazzo in Poggioreale: admission is free and visits can be arranged by appointment. Poggioreale storica reopened to visitors on 10 June 2026 after being closed for years because of unsafe conditions.
