In local folklore, Grotta Grattara is associated with La Befana; locally, she is called “a vecchia strina”.

The Madrice Vecchia dates from 1350, and its bell tower houses seven bells. The Chiesa di Santa Maria del Gesù is considered one of the oldest churches in Gratteri.

The Good Friday procession “a Sulità” is part of the local traditions. A line of people walks through the town one behind another, carrying torches or lanterns. Gratteri and the month of August are also associated with the Sagra della “Vastedda fritta”. Religious tradition and a local dish thus add different cultural accents to the course of the year.
