Holiday Apartment in Spadafora between Coast and Culture

Spadafora combines a promenade stretching approximately 4 km with distinctive religious buildings and a lively local cultural life. The Spadafora promenade – the Lungomare Nauloco – extends along the Tyrrhenian coast between Rometta Marea and Venetico. Stops for local public transport are located nearby. It also has several accessible entrances. The promenade can be used free of charge and without time restrictions; public parking spaces are available along Via Lungomare and in the adjacent streets.

Directly opposite the promenade is Parco Sportivo San Giuseppe. It has equipment for outdoor physical activity and green spaces suitable for families and people who enjoy sports. This makes it possible to combine time on the coast with exercise and a break in the greenery, without requiring an additional excursion destination to be the main focus.

Churches with Different Historical Accents

Among Spadafora's important buildings is the Chiesa di San Giuseppe. It is designed as a single-nave church with a polygonal apse, round arches, Corinthian columns and an elliptical ribbed dome. It is accessible during religious celebrations. The Chiesa di San Martino preserves valuable polychrome marble altars from the 18th century, which come from the original church. The church in the district of the same name was rebuilt in the 1920s and 1930s.

The Chiesa del Sacro Cuore di Gesù also has its own distinctive character. It was built in 1939 by the engineer Barbaro from Messina. Above its high altar is a painting by Bonanno from Messina dating from 1945, which commemorates the apparition associated with the church. In Grangiara, there is also the Chiesa della Madonna del Carmine, which was built at the beginning of the 19th century and has preserved its original, simple and essential architectural features.

Traditions and Cultural Sites

The Castello di Spadafora is used by the municipal administration and the Pro Loco di Spadafora for numerous cultural events. Access is free on request. A special connection between local life and religious tradition is shown by the patron saint festivities in honour of Saint Joseph: they take place on the Sunday after the third Thursday in July and coincide with the traditional cattle fair. During the Processione di San Giuseppe, the statue is carried through Spadafora, turned towards the sea for the blessing, and then returned to the Chiesa di San Giuseppe.

Grangiara adds a smaller-scale district shaped by agriculture to the picture. The Borgo di Grangiara is located approximately 1,500 metres from the centre of Spadafora, can be reached on foot and by car, and is considered to be publicly accessible around the clock. Olive oil, wine and citrus fruits, especially lemons, are produced there agriculturally. This creates a contrast between the coastal promenade and an area where cultivation and simple historic architecture belong together.

When choosing a holiday apartment in Spadafora, you can therefore take different interests into account: walks along the Tyrrhenian coast, exercise in Parco Sportivo, religious architecture, cultural events or Grangiara's agricultural character and its simple historic architecture. The Castello is accessible free of charge on request, while the Chiesa di San Giuseppe is accessible during religious celebrations. Spadafora therefore offers concrete points of interest for families who want to combine time on the coast, discovery and local traditions.
