Its main altar contains an 18th-century Baroque structure with sculpted depictions of the two saints.

The Palazzo Ducale was built around 1400; from the mid-17th century onwards, the Denti family had it considerably expanded. Built around 1500 from large blocks of stone on a rocky spur, the Torre delle Ciavole is square and an example of the defensive system established along the Sicilian coast at that time. The Torre Saracena was built for defensive purposes, to spot possible intruders approaching from the sea, and stands in a strategic position overlooking a wide stretch of coastline.

The “La Pineta” Suburban Park lies a few kilometres south of Piraino’s built-up centre. Festivals and Sicilian Way of Life

The San Giuseppe patron saint festival takes place on the Tuesday after Easter and includes a procession with the statue of the saint. It is also known as Martedì della Benedizione because the fields and surrounding countryside are blessed during the celebration. At the San Rocco festival on 16 August, the statues of San Rocco, Santa Lucia, Sant’Antonio di Padova and Maria SS. della Trinità are carried in a procession. Gliaca di Piraino is associated during Carnival with the traditional Carnevale dell’Orso parade, featuring floats and masked groups. At Christmas, Piraino’s townscape includes a religious nativity scene; performers in historical costumes appear in the town’s streets.
