Murals in the townscape

Since 2017, artists from all over the world have been creating murals on the building facades of Graniti. Today, there are more than 40 murals, created as part of the ART Project Graniti & Graniti Murales. The works are spread throughout the town and therefore appear in various locations within the townscape. On a facade, a mural appears as part of the building; taken together, the murals create different views of the town. The local architecture thus becomes the changing backdrop for the murals. As a result, the art remains closely connected to Graniti, even though the participating artists come from all over the world. The connection between mural and facade gives each motif an architectural frame.

Museo Mazzullo

The Museo Mazzullo in Graniti houses a collection of the sculptor’s early works. These early works represent an initial phase of the sculptor’s creative output and create an independent accent within Graniti’s art scene.

Churches and Villa Comunale

The Chiesa di San Basilio has a facade dating typically from the 17th century and an interior from the 18th century. The Chiesa di San Sebastiano Martire dates from the 20th century and has a neoclassical facade. The Chiesa di San Giuseppe features a remarkable wooden altar. Graniti’s Villa Comunale includes the Sacrario dei Caduti. The specific details of these religious buildings therefore lie in their construction period, facade design, interior and furnishings. The Chiesa di San Basilio combines an older facade with a later interior, while the neoclassical facade style stands out at San Sebastiano Martire. San Giuseppe creates its own design focus with the wooden altar.

Landscape along the Torrente Petrolo

Graniti overlooks the broad bed of the Torrente Petrolo, a tributary of the Alcantara River. The pine forest of Graniti is a notable visitor attraction with wooded areas. The open view of the riverbed draws attention to its expanse, while the pine forest creates a contrasting visual accent with its wooded areas.

Festivals and the cherries of Graniti

The traditional annual Sagra delle ciliege celebrates cherries, which are considered Graniti’s symbolic fruit. This gives the cherry a permanent place in the town’s local traditions. The Festa di San Sebastiano takes place in Graniti every year on the first Sunday in August. This specific date ties the festival to a recurring Sunday in August and makes its timing unambiguous. At the Sagra, the fruit itself is the focus; at the Festa, it is a date determined by the Sunday. The first Sunday in August is therefore a clear recurring reference point in Graniti’s annual cycle.
