Forza d'Agrò combines a film-historical setting with stone alleyways, churches and expansive views. In 1971, the historic centre was selected by Francis Ford Coppola as a filming location for several scenes in the Corleone film saga, beginning with The Godfather. The Chiesa della Santissima Trinità dates from the 15th century and was restored in 1576. Its interior has a single nave; its furnishings include an 18th-century wooden pulpit. This church is also accessible during religious celebrations.

Monastic history, alleyways and arches

The Convento Agostiniano was begun in 1559 and completed in 1591. Following restoration in 2001, it now hosts conferences and various events. Its underground crypt contains 15 brick-built seats where deceased monks were laid out to dry.

The Chiesa di San Francesco was built in the 15th century by the Franciscan Minors. The Arco Durazzesco is a Gothic-Catalan arch from the 15th century. The Chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo is quite different: it is in a state of ruins that is difficult to access, has no opening hours, and visits must be arranged with the local authorities.

Festivals and historic trails

During the Festa del SS. Crocifisso, the crucifix is carried through the medieval alleyways of Forza d'Agrò amid applause, singing and fireworks. The Forza d'Agrò–Taormina hiking trail is connected to historic Trazzere, meaning mule tracks that once linked mountain villages. From the hiking trail, hikers can enjoy views stretching from Mount Etna to the Mediterranean.
