Sacred Art and Roman Traces

The Museo di Arte Sacra is located in the crypt of the Chiesa Madre in Misterbianco and is therefore directly part of the church’s sacred space. A telephone or email reservation is required for visits. Concrete evidence of earlier eras can also be found outside the museum. The remains of a Greek fortification and a Roman building are located in the Erbe Bianche area; they are under direct archaeological protection. Both remains in Erbe Bianche are under the same direct archaeological protection. The remains of Roman thermal baths are located in Piazza della Resistenza and are also under direct archaeological protection. In Via Garibaldi, the remains of a Roman aqueduct are under direct archaeological protection.

Carnival Between Tradition and Craftsmanship

The Carnival of Misterbianco is rooted in ancient traditions and is associated with the “Costumi più belli di Sicilia.” The costumes are created in local craft workshops that work on them for a year, meaning their production extends far beyond the individual festival day. The Museo del Carnevale is located in the Stabilimento Monaco.

Campanarazzu and the Memory of 1669

The festival of the Madonna degli Ammalati has its roots in the history of Misterbianco. The old town center was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Etna in March 1669. The park and the oak grove of Campanarazzu were spared by the 1669 eruption and preserve the memory of the old town center for the residents of Misterbianco. A painting from the old Chiesa Madre of Campanarazzu was probably located there next to the baptistery and dates from the first half of the 17th century.

When finding your way around Campanarazzu, the current status of the Antica Chiesa Madre is important: It cannot currently be visited due to ongoing extraordinary maintenance work. The Campanarazzu route is connected to the hamlet of Madonna degli Ammalati in Misterbianco and extends to the end of Via Campanarazzu. For orientation purposes, this route information must be distinguished from the currently unavailable visit to the Antica Chiesa Madre.

Misterbianco’s municipal tourism and city promotion service coordinates the municipal information point and organizes the city’s main public events.

As part of the festival of the Madonna degli Ammalati, the municipality plans a street-food area in Via Madonna degli Ammalati for the period from September 11, 2026, to September 13, 2026. The date is therefore limited to three days in September 2026.
