Carruba is considered a small settlement of agricultural origin and stretches between the SP 91 and the Circumetnea railway line. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Carruba, you can plan your stay around your preferred experience: gardens and tastings, ecclesiastical art, local festival programmes or a striking coastal landscape reveal different facets of the area. This allows you to combine nature observation, regional products, culture and shared exploration.

By prior reservation, Malvarosa offers guided tours of the Giardino dei Gelsomini, including for groups. The tour includes a walk through the garden followed by a tasting of nursery products made with malvarosa and jasmine. The Giardino dei Gelsomini houses a significant collection of jasmines arranged along an illustrated educational trail and is considered Europe's only garden dedicated entirely to the genera Jasminum and Chrysojasminum. This creates a particularly vivid experience if you would like not only to observe the plants but also to combine them with a guided tour and regional flavours.

Profumo di Zagara: products and shared experiences

“Profumo di Zagara” also combined culinary themes with a varied programme of events. The programme included the hands-on workshop “La provola al limone” and free tastings of products from local businesses. The event in Piazza Stazione in Carruba included traditional tournaments, children's workshops, cultural meetings, tastings, theatre and music performances, dance shows and further programme items promoting lemons and local products. At the opening of “Profumo di Zagara”, there was a practical workshop on making Provola dei Nebrodi al Limone, as well as a tasting of products from the exhibiting food businesses. The range therefore extended from traditional food production to music, dance, tournaments and gatherings.

Church, art and events in Carruba

The parish church of San Martino Vescovo in Carruba combines religious tradition with a specific work of art. On 9 December 2024, it hosted the diocese's traditional Advent day of reflection for catechists, organised by the Diocesan Catechetical Office and led by Don Carmelo Sciuto. The church's transept also contains a 3.60 × 2 metre painting by Giuseppe Giuffrida depicting the Visitation of Mary. In the summer programme of the municipality of Riposto, “I Festival della canzone” was scheduled for 20 July at 9 p.m. in Piazza Camuba in Carruba, organised by the association “Insieme per Carruba”. Carruba also has a memorial plaque commemorating the fallen.

Contrada Gancia and the coastal cliffs

Contrada Gancia is an area of approximately 12 hectares between Torre Archirafi and Carruba. The southern coastal section near Praiola and Gancia is characterised by steep cliffs that are more than 20 metres high in some places. This landscape adds a distinctly geomorphological dimension to the cultural and culinary themes. When choosing accommodation in Carruba, distinguishing between garden tours, events, church art and coastal landscapes helps you establish your desired daily rhythm without reducing the surrounding area to just one type of holiday.
