San Teodoro: Beaches, History and Nature
Accommodation in San Teodoro
Coast, nature and water in San Teodoro
Capo Coda Cavallo beach lies on a granite promontory extending into the Tyrrhenian Sea. The islands of Proratora, Tavolara and Molara protect this stretch of coast, while the Mediterranean maquis and fine white sand shape its distinctive appearance.
Capo Coda Cavallo also offers a special perspective on the underwater world: diving is possible between underwater walls and in caves, with a diverse marine fauna. At the Capo Coda Cavallo viewpoint are well-preserved structures of a military post from the Second World War, which served to observe Allied air forces.

Beaches for different kinds of holiday
La Cinta forms a five-kilometre-long arc of fine white dunes. Juniper, sea lily and everlasting flower accompany the beach beside a clear, blue sea. Spiaggia de La Cinta beach is located close to San Teodoro. Spiaggia dell'Isuledda beach is also located close to San Teodoro.
Capo Coda Cavallo and La Cinta represent two different coastal landscapes by the sea: a granite promontory with protected islands and Mediterranean maquis on the one hand, and a five-kilometre-long dune arc with beach plants on the other.
Spiaggia di Porto Ottiolu beach and Spiaggia Li Cuppulati beach are located in the surroundings of San Teodoro.
Natural landscape and Sardinian history
The Monte Nieddu granite massif is protected under Sardinian Regional Law No. 31/1989 as an area of particular natural-scientific and ecological importance. For travellers interested in natural history, this protected status makes a clear statement.
San Teodoro's religious history is also linked to specific dates. The rural parish church of San Teodoro d’Oviddè was officially founded in the 1770s. Religious celebrations include a liturgical festival on 9 November and a popular festival on the third Sunday in June.
Museums and historic sites
The Museo civiltà del mare San Teodoro displays archaeological finds from the Punic period, the Roman Republican period, the early and middle Imperial periods, and from Late Antiquity through the Middle Ages. A library and a multimedia area expand the opportunities available there for exploring maritime and archaeological topics. The Museo delle civiltà del mare - ICIMAR is located close to San Teodoro.
In the wider regional surroundings of San Teodoro are Castello della Fava, the ancient site of Su Monte de S'Ape and the ancient site of Holy Well Sa Testa.
Special features and local cuisine
In Cala Ghjlgolu there is a rock shaped like a turtle by the wind and sea. This unusual natural feature stands alongside Aglióla, which takes place in May and offers the opportunity to sample typical dishes from San Teodoro.
