Churches and historical traces

Rudalza is home to the church of Chiesa Sant’Antonio e Sant’Isidoro. The country church of Nostra Signora del Monte, which dates from the 18th century, also stands in Rudalza. The saints Antonio and Isidoro, to whom the festival is dedicated, are already named in the church’s name, Chiesa Sant’Antonio e Sant’Isidoro.

Rudalza’s historical landscape included granite quarries whose tracks reached the sea. Between the late 17th and early 18th centuries, there were 21 inhabited stazzi here. These historical references thus range from granite extraction to Sardinia’s rural settlement history.

According to local tradition, a place in Rudalza is referred to as s’ozzastru ’e su tulcu, “the olive tree where the Turk was killed”.

Beach, equestrian centre and routes to Porto Rotondo

Spiaggia Rudalza is a very small, atmospheric beach near the Piazzetta Rudalza. The town is also home to the Centro Ippico Era Sarda equestrian centre.

The Sardinian cycle route Itinerario 21 provides access to the centre of Porto Rotondo and its marina via the roundabout at Via Monte Ladu. The approach to Porto Rotondo follows the SP99 to the Rudalza roundabout. From there, take the third exit onto Via Monte Ladu and continue to the town centre. The route to Porto Rotondo and access to the centre therefore share the roundabout and Via Monte Ladu.

Festivals, cuisine and rural surroundings

For several years, Rudalza has celebrated on the festival date in honour of Saints Antonio and Isidoro. The celebration brings residents and visitors together for a locally rooted festival. On this occasion, Gnocchi alla gallurese is offered free of charge as part of the local culinary tradition. The festival thus combines a religious occasion with a specific dish from the local culinary tradition.

Rudalza’s present-day character also reflects the fact that agriculture and livestock farming are the predominant activities there. The Nuraghe Riu Mulinu, also known as the Nuraghe of Cabu Abbas, is located in the municipality of Olbia. A massive surrounding wall encircles the Nuraghe Riu Mulinu.

If you would like to include destinations beyond Rudalza in your Sardinia itinerary, also discover Budoni, Ruoni, Aglientu, Tamarispa, Porto Istana, Calangianus, Bortigiadas and Conca Verde.
