Portu Maga is centrally located on the Costa Verde. The three-kilometre-long coastline, the hills facing the sea and the views of panoramas and sunsets give the place a distinct coastal character. The sea, paths and early history consequently shape different sides of Portu Maga.

Beach Days Between Swimming and Wind

Long swims are possible at Portu Maga beach, and underwater fishing is also possible there. When the wind is blowing, you can surf in Portu Maga. After storms, the famous “Occhi di Santa Lucia” shells, with their pearlescent reflections, can also be admired on the beach. The marine environment around Portu Maga is rich in fish, molluscs and marine flora. The weather therefore influences the possible focus of a beach day without limiting this stretch of coast to a single activity. In this way, the Portu Maga coastline combines movement in the water with observations of nature, which can be enjoyed in different ways depending on the weather and personal interests.

La via dei cervi: Exploring on Foot, on Horseback or by Bicycle

The “La via dei cervi” trail can be used on foot, on horseback and by bicycle. At the same time, it leads almost all the way to the sea in the town of Portu Maga. This gives you several ways to experience the landscape at different speeds: as a walk, a horseback ride or a bicycle tour. The trail thus complements the beach activities with an active perspective on the town and its coastal setting. The choice of transport changes the pace of the outing; whether on foot, on horseback or by bicycle, the trail can be incorporated into the day in a different way each time.

Coastal Road and Provisional Cycle Route

The coastal road from Portu Maga continues as far as the Rio Piscinas. In addition, Itinerario 36, designated as a provisional route, passes through Portu Maga, which is considered one of the coastal centres along its route. These two routes thus complement the coastal landscape with a connection to the Rio Piscinas and a provisional route through the town.

S’Omu e s’Orku and a Submerged Coastal Landscape

S’Omu e s’Orku is a collapsed rock shelter near Portu Maga. The site contains a Mesolithic stratigraphic sequence dating from 9,200 to 7,800 cal BP. A now-submerged coastal palaeolandscape, approximately 9,000 years old, was also reconstructed at S’Omu e S’Orku in Portu Maga. Alongside the beach, wind and water, these specific traces of the past give the coastal town another unusual dimension.

Practical Information for the Beach

Portu Maga beach has a large car park. Beach and water sports equipment, as well as small watercraft such as canoes, pedal boats and inflatable boats, are also rented at the beach. The large car park is likewise part of the practical information for the beach.
