Casa della Resistenza: History and Guided Tours
Casa della Resistenza offers educational programmes on contemporary history and important episodes in local history, particularly the history of the Resistance. Guided visits last approximately one and a half hours and require a prior reservation arranged in advance. This duration can be planned as a standalone programme item focused on contemporary history. For those interested in culture, the visit can be planned as a clearly defined block of time alongside cycling routes and observation points. Casa della Resistenza is located approximately one kilometre from Verbania Pallanza railway station. The station is on the international railway line between Milan and Domodossola.
Reed Beds and the Riserva Naturale di Fondotoce
The reed beds are the defining habitat of the Riserva Naturale di Fondotoce. They provide a suitable habitat for the reproduction of lake fish. Bird species find nesting sites there. The Riserva Naturale del Fondo Toce also includes the final stretch of the Toce River. The reed beds therefore represent both the reserve’s plant life and the habitats used for fish reproduction and bird nesting. For nature observation, both the reed beds and the habitats of lake fish and bird species are important here.
Cycling Routes Along the Reed Canal
The cycling routes in the Riserva Naturale di Fondotoce follow the reed canal. The reed canal connects Lake Maggiore with Lake Mergozzo. Along the routes, beaches and observation points can be reached. You can also follow the Toce River upstream. The reed canal is the spatial line that guides the course of these cycling routes. The routes thus connect the waterscape and nature observation along a defined stretch. A ride along the canal can include beaches and observation points as specific stops, while the Toce marks the continuation upstream.
Hiking Trail A00e and Fattoria del Toce
Hiking trail A00e begins in the village of Fondotoce. Its starting point is in the Canton Magistris district, opposite the entrance to the Riserva Naturale del Fondo Toce. From Canton Magistris, the trail leads to Cavandone. For hike planning, this establishes both a starting point opposite the reserve and the destination of Cavandone. The “Fattoria del Toce” is an educational farm with a park recognised by the Piedmont Region. The park can be visited, and workshops are also possible. At Fattoria del Toce, planning can distinguish between a park visit and a workshop; both options are part of a visit to this educational farm.
