The permanent exhibition “L'uomo e l'acqua” is the centrepiece of the Museo del Rubinetto e della sua Tecnologia. It focuses on the relationship between people and water. It also traces the history of hygiene and technological innovations. Fittings and valves are among the essential components that made it possible to use water. Several buildings complement this cultural focus. The Chiesa della Madonna delle Grazie was built in 1739 on behalf of the Lera family, particularly at the initiative of Marco Antonio Lera. The Palazzo Bettoja in Opagliolo is considered a typical house of the local minor nobility. Archaeological finds indicate that the site was already inhabited in Roman times and earlier.
The history of the Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Maurizio also goes back a long way. A valuation dated 1537 confirms that a church dedicated to Saint Maurice stood in Briallo. In 1582–1583, it may have been repaired and enlarged in preparation for its consecration by Bishop Cesare Spedano on 9 September 1590. The Oratorio di San Giulio alla Fontana lies between Opagliolo and Punta di Casario, set amid wooded terrain in a narrow valley leading to the lake.
Lakeside trails, beaches and hiking destinations
For walks by the water, a trail along the lakeshore begins in the village of Pascolo. The Anello Azzurro passes the Spiaggia Comunale di Pascolo and the Spiaggia Comunale di Prarolo. Another route to the Oratorio di San Giulio begins in Loc. Opagliolo on Via Monte Bianco. From there, a footpath leads to the oratory; via a paved lane, the route continues to the lake. The “L’Antica Via degli Scalpellini” walk begins at the Ditta Giacomini car park on the road between San Maurizio d'Opaglio and Alzo. It follows the historic uphill route to the Santuario di Madonna del Sasso.
