Holiday apartment in Dormelletto on Lake Maggiore
Accommodation in Dormelletto
On the Piedmontese shore of Lake Maggiore, Dormelletto combines natural landscapes, lakeside areas and an unusually dense series of cultural and historical references. Between Arona and Castelletto Ticino, the Riserva naturale speciale dei Canneti di Dormelletto special nature reserve extends for around four kilometres and covers approximately 157 hectares. At the same time, archaeological remains in the Parco Naturale dei Lagoni di Mercurago span the period from prehistory through the Golasecca culture to the Roman era. This creates a destination whose character can be discovered through its landscape, water and history.

Nature and the regional landscape
Dormelletto is one of the four municipalities across which the 473-hectare Parco Naturale dei Lagoni di Mercurago extends. In the vicinity of Dormelletto are the Museo Archeologico, a museum, and the Rocca Borromeo, a fortress. Also nearby are the Statua di San Carlo Borromeo, a monument, and Villa Bellini, a palace. The area around Dormelletto also includes Spiaggia dei Caravalle, a beach, and Spiaggia del Sasso Cavallazzo, a beach.
Archaeology and history
The Parco Naturale dei Lagoni di Mercurago contains significant archaeological remains from the Golasecca culture, the Roman era and prehistory. The Gallic necropolis of Dormelletto is considered particularly important for research because of its chronology and the typology of some of its finds and structures. Excavations uncovered 52 graves at two different depth levels. The Chiesa della Madonna della Fontana has been documented since 1329. The church of Santa Maria di Dormelletto also bears the addition “del castello” and was consecrated by Bishop Litifredo.
Federico Tesio was a pioneer in research and experimentation in the breeding of racehorses; for this purpose, he intensively studied crossbreeding and selection according to Mendelian genetic principles. The range of historical topics thus extends from prehistoric and Gallic finds to ecclesiastical evidence and the scientifically oriented history of horse breeding.
