The fortified part of the town could be accessed through three gates; the inner street is named Via Tre Porte. Parts of the old fortification walls are still visible.

The Palazzo Baronale recalls Chiauci’s fortified medieval past. Its walls were originally connected to three large access gates leading into the town. The Church of S. Giovanni Evangelista also tells part of the town’s architectural history: it was built in 1724 with three naves and also features a round tower. Chiauci lies amid forests of Turkey oaks, firs, beeches and pines. The area includes more than 40 springs. The old Castel di Sangro–Lucera tratturo passes through Chiauci and adds a historic route connection to the landscape.

The landscape around Chiauci includes rock faces reflected in the artificial lake created by the dam, as well as the Abruzzo mountains in the background.
