The cityscape is dominated by Larino Cathedral, which includes an older section dating back to a 12th-century church. There are also stone bas-reliefs from the 12th to the 14th century. The Basilica and Co-Cathedral of San Pardo was founded in the 13th century and consecrated on 30 July 1319.

The Diocesan Museum displays works of art from the 14th to the 19th century. Among its notable holdings is a silver reliquary in the shape of a blessing arm, dating from 1492. It contains a bone fragment of Saint Primian. The museum also preserves more than 300 liturgical vestments from the 15th

Roman traces around the amphitheatre and Palazzo Ducale

The Parco dell’Anfiteatro e Villa Zappone complex is located in Larino on Via Dante. Roman thermal buildings with mosaics were constructed near the amphitheatre arena. The mosaics depict geometric patterns as well as marine and fantastic animals.

The permanent archaeological exhibition Ars et Ingenium is housed in the Museo Civico in the Palazzo Ducale di Larino. It includes various finds from the Larino area, particularly from the Roman amphitheatre and the Samnite-Frentanian area. The exhibits date from the 10th century BC to the 4th century BC.

San Pardo and the Carnevale di Larino

The festival of San Pardo dates back to the year 842. After the inhabitants of Larino survived the Saracen invasion, they carried the mortal remains of the bishop and saint San Pardo away on a flower-decorated cart and declared him the patron saint of the town. The festival cart is considered a family symbol and is passed down from generation to generation.

The municipal programme for the 2025 San Pardo festival included a procession of the carts on 25 May 2025 from 5 to 7 p.m., as well as a procession of the carts to the Church of San Primiano on 27 May 2025 from 3 to 4 p.m.

The modern Carnevale di Larino began in 1975 with the first allegorical floats. They were created through the commitment of local parish priests, the parish community and, in particular, many young people. The association promoting the Carnevale di Larino organises processions of allegorical floats together with the municipality and promotes the craft of papier-mâché, as well as the mechanical, hydraulic and electrical techniques used in the floats. For the 2026 Carnevale Larinese, the 51st edition, designs for the construction of allegorical floats and individual masks were approved.

Olive oil as a local highlight

Regional culinary culture is also part of Larino’s profile. The annual Goccia d’Oro competition brings together the best olive oil producers in the surrounding area and strengthens Larino’s reputation. Together with the museums, historic buildings and festival traditions, this creates a destination with a variety of focal points.
