In the cloister of the abbey at the Musei Parrocchiali, a Roman cistern has been preserved that was used by Benedictine monks as an ice cellar for centuries. The Sala degli Stemmi in the Abbazia di San Bartolomeo is completely decorated with frescoes. Its walls bear the coats of arms of the commendatory abbots who succeeded one another from 1564 onwards, as well as depictions of views of Campofilone; at the same time, the room presents the history of the abbey and the monastic community. The Teatro Comunale preserves an image of the god Apollo painted on the ceiling by Nicola Achilli, as well as dolphin-shaped chandeliers by the blacksmith artist Aris Ficiarà.

Maccheroncini and local identity

Maccheroncini di Campofilone received European recognition as a protected geographical indication (IGP) in 2013. The first artisan workshop for their production was established in the historic centre opposite the Chiesa di San Bartolomeo. The Sagra Nazionale dei Maccheroncini di Campofilone can be traced back to 1964 and is associated with the first third of August and the tasting of Maccheroncini with traditional rich meat ragù. The Ecomuseo della Valle dell’Aso e delle sue identità association is based in Campofilone at Palazzo Morelli/Astorri.

Beach, cycle path and active days

Campofilone beach stretches for more than 1.5 kilometres between Tre Camini and Ponte Nina. There you will find fine sand, shallow water, pebbly sections and wide open spaces. A modern cycle path along the coast of Campofilone connects Marina di Campofilone with Pedaso and Marina di Altidona.
