Art and local history around the town hall
The Pinacoteca civica is located on the top floor of the town hall. It contains a reconstructed study belonging to the architect Giuseppe Sacconi, creator of the Altare della Patria in Rome. The Museo Etnografico "L'Acqua, la Terra, la Tela" is housed in the basement. The vaulted and arched rooms include an old water well and an underground labyrinth of vaulted passageways. Restored equipment and tools such as mill sails, looms, a cart, ploughs and yokes give the museum its tangible, craft-oriented character.
The Museo Civico preserves numerous archaeological finds from the Neolithic period around 6000 BC, the Apennine culture around 2500 BC, the Picenian culture from the 7th century BC, the Roman period and later eras. The Museo Sistino Vescovile is located in Piazza Sisto V in the former seminary and houses works of art from Montalto as well as from the districts of Porchia and Patrignone. It is currently closed to visitors because the building has been rendered unusable by the most recent earthquakes.
Historic buildings and traces of craftsmanship
The Mulino di Sisto V is one of the few fortified mill buildings in the Marche. Its existence and operation have been documented since 1320. The basement still contains millstones used to process wheat. Two of the town's entrance gates are also well preserved. The Monastero di S. Chiara was opened in 1631 with the first two nuns from the convent of the Urbanist Poor Clares of Monte Santo; monastic life continued until 2019.

The nature trail in the Aso Valley begins at Piazza Sisto V. The e-bike circular tour to Porchia also starts in Montalto. Its stops include wineries, olive mills and craft businesses.
