Morro D'alba is a destination for travelers who want to combine historic townscapes, walks and rural impressions. La Scarpa and the history behind the walls
A distinctive experience is the Camminamento di Ronda “La Scarpa”. It runs along all the castle walls of the town of Morro d’Alba and is considered unique in Europe. The well-preserved Camminamento allows visitors to take a walk with extraordinary views over the landscape of the Marche region. Access is from Piazza Romagnoli; a ramp is available for access from the road.
The Santa Teleucania Auditorium is housed in the former S.S. Annunziata church, which was inaugurated in 1670. The area formerly dedicated to worship is used for conferences, while the area below serves as an exhibition space.
Museo Utensilia and sacred art
Since 2008, the Museo Utensilia has been housed in the atmospheric underground rooms of the castle beneath “La Scarpa”. It is a systematically assembled and documented collection on the life and means of production of sharecroppers in the Marche region. Eight themed rooms display numerous tools made by farmers themselves for working in the fields, in the household and with animals.
The lower passages, built between the 15th and 16th centuries, are visible and partly open to visitors. The Parrocchia di San Gaudenzio also houses Ercole Ramazzani’s 1596 painting “Crocifissione con Santi”.
Trails through the landscape and wine
Various routes are available for exploring the landscape. The easy circular route from the Parrocchia di San Gaudenzio to the Chiesa rurale di Santa Maria del Fiore is 3.9 km long, passes through the countryside and offers impressive views of the town. The Agricom-S. Amico trail is 5.9 km long and is a medium-length walk along little-used paths where it is easy to encounter wildlife. The two trails offer different points of reference when planning an outing: the circular route connects two churches and remains more compact at 3.9 kilometers, while the Agricom-S. Amico trail is longer at 5.9 kilometers, follows little-used paths and offers easy opportunities to encounter wildlife.
The excursions of the “Percorsi nelle Terre del Lacrima” lead through vineyards, rolling hills, wine cellars and rural churches. They convey the authentic side of Morro d’Alba. When visiting the wine cellars, producers personally welcome guests and introduce them to the secrets of winemaking. This includes sensory tours that are more than just tastings.
