Mosaics and History in Marina di Montemarciano
The parish church of Santa Maria della Neve and San Rocco is located in Marina di Montemarciano. It houses the mosaic there and is open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The mosaic wall covers more than 100 square metres in the chancel and the side chapel of the Blessed Sacrament. Jesuit Marko Ivan Rupnik and the studio of the Centro Aletti in Rome, which he directed, were selected for the mosaic. Anyone wishing to include the church in their daily itinerary can choose between the two daily opening periods in the morning and late afternoon.
Recent finds show that the area of Marina di Montemarciano was the site of a Roman settlement. The parish of Case Bruciate in Montemarciano, now Marina di Montemarciano, was established on 31 January 1853 under the title of Santa Maria della Neve and San Rocco; the parish church in Marina di Montemarciano bears the same title.
The Mandracchio and Maritime Traces
The Mandracchio is located on State Road 16 in Marina di Montemarciano. It probably originated at the end of the 14th century as a defensive tower. At the end of the 16th century, the Mandracchio was a building with an enclosed courtyard. It had two entrances—one facing the sea and one facing inland—towers oriented towards the sea, as well as numerous rooms for accommodating travellers, goods and animals.
