The museum is housed in the former Dominican monastery and presents seven centuries of local paper-making tradition. The sections cover the artisanal production and use of paper, watermarks and their production techniques, the historical development of paper, the development of this art in Fabriano, as well as processing and technology. The subject becomes particularly vivid in the educational workshop: visitors can make their own sheet of paper together with the Mastri Cartai. Frescoes, art collection and archaeological traces
The Oratorio della Carità contains a cycle of fourteen fresco panels by Filippo Bellini of Urbino. Construction of the Oratorio began in 1587, and it was the seat of the Confraternita della Carità. At the Pinacoteca Civica “Bruno Molajoli”, the collection spans from the 14th century to the present day: it was founded in 1862 and houses an extensive art collection. The Oratorio therefore focuses on a complete fresco cycle, while the Pinacoteca covers many centuries of art history.
At the Area Archeologica di Attidium, the archaeological finds include a Picenian settlement from the 5th century BC and Roman burial materials. The site was used from the Late Neolithic period through the imperial period, although not continuously. Those interested in early settlement traces and Roman remains will encounter both subjects here within a single archaeological site.
Nature trails in the mountain basin of the upper Esino
The Valleremita area in the mountain basin of the upper Esino belongs to the Natura 2000 network. In Valleremita, an equipped nature trail with explanatory panels begins at the Borgo. The starting point at the Borgo and the panels provide the trail with a clear framework for a stay in the landscape.
The area around the Eremo di San Silvestro also offers a short, scenic circular trail around Monte Fano. The circular trail focuses on views; in Valleremita, explanatory panels accompany the nature trail at the Borgo. A practical workshop and a short circular trail require different time planning; in Fabriano, cultural and nature interests can therefore be arranged in separate parts of the day.
