Historic Spaces and Special Works of Art
The Teatro Misa was reconstructed between 1840 and 1845 in the Palazzo dei Priori. Its horseshoe-shaped auditorium has three tiers of boxes, making the theatre a striking example of historic theatre architecture.
The Collegiata di San Medardo houses works by Luca Signorelli, Giovanni della Robbia and Ercole Ramazzani. Guided tours are available by prior reservation and last at least one hour. Near Piazza Garibaldi, the Centro San Francesco is located in a former Franciscan monastery. It houses a Historical Archive containing around 1,800 parchments from the 13th to the 16th century.
Archaeology in the Historic Centre
The Museo Archeologico Statale in the historic centre of Arcevia brings together archaeological materials from the municipal area, dating from prehistory to Roman times. These include flint tools from the Upper Palaeolithic at Ponte di Pietra and the reconstruction of an archaeological layer documented during the excavations. Access is through the main entrance at Corso Giuseppe Mazzini 64.
Forest Trails and Panoramic Routes
In the western part of Arcevia’s municipal area, trails run around Monte della Croce and Monte della Guardia and can be explored on foot or by mountain bike. Some sections pass through forests, while others cross panoramic landscapes. The Anello del Monte della Croce circular route leads from a small village in the municipal area through pine, hornbeam and oak forests to the summit of Monte della Croce.
Castello di Palazzo on Monte Caudino
Castello di Palazzo stands on a hill at an elevation of 516 metres at the foot of Monte Caudino. The walled centre has an unusual urban layout following the contours of the terrain, as well as imposing sections made of stone and brick. An entrance gate dating from the 15th century is also part of its townscape. The Castello di Palazzo can be explored along its lanes on a short urban trek.
