Accommodation in Gerenzano
Holiday apartment in Gerenzano between nature and culture
Gerenzano invites you on a journey through nature observation, landscape history and sacred art. Parco degli Aironi, Parco dei Mughetti, Fontanile di San Giacomo and the town’s churches each offer a different perspective.
Parco degli Aironi extends over 40 hectares and includes a lake area, Lombard broadleaf forest, meadows and an agro-pastoral environment. The park contains a 53,000-square-metre lake with a depth of more than 15 metres. A special birdwatching facility also focuses attention on the wildlife. Parco degli Aironi is located at Via Inglesina 51. From the A9 motorway, take the Saronno exit and follow the signs towards Varese.

Lake landscapes, forests and traces of water
In Gerenzano, Parco dei Mughetti comprises agricultural and forestry areas and lies in Lombard territories that are among the priority areas for the conservation of biodiversity. Fontanile di San Giacomo adds a distinctive landscape-historical element: its spring is located in Gerenzano, and the groundwater resurgence is partly natural and partly connected with the historic extraction of clay. The clay was used in nearby brickworks to make bricks. The visible network of channels that once enabled water circulation across the meadows is still preserved in the Fontanile area.
Church art in Gerenzano
The Chiesa di San Giacomo Maggiore offers an introduction to the town’s art history. Its interior features frescoes attributed to Marco D’Oggiono. The rectangular presbytery is entirely decorated with frescoes, while the central altarpiece is attributed to Giovanni Agostino da Lodi. Also in Gerenzano, the Oratory of the Chiesa di San Giacomo Maggiore was built at the beginning of the 16th century at the behest of Giacomo Fagnani.
In addition to its broad entrance staircase, the Chiesa dei Santi Apostoli Pietro e Paolo has a side ramp that makes access easier for people with disabilities. As early as the 13th century, the church was among those dependent on the Pieve di Appiano Gentile. Gerenzano therefore brings together different points of cultural and historical interest: the frescoes and altarpiece in San Giacomo Maggiore, as well as the long-standing ecclesiastical affiliation of Santi Apostoli Pietro e Paolo.
A signposted route to Rescaldina
For active days, an approximately 2.8-kilometre signposted hiking trail between Gerenzano and Rescaldina was established in December 2024. It connects Parco degli Aironi with Parco Iasilli on Via Nenni in Rescaldina. The route was recommended for hikers, cyclists and horse riders.
