Casalzuigno between culture and hiking trails

Casalzuigno combines historic architecture with hiking trails. This combination opens up different options for your stay. When choosing a holiday apartment in Casalzuigno, you can plan a holiday that is not limited to a single theme.

Villa Della Porta Bozzolo was built in the 16th century as a country residence and transformed into an elegant summer residence in the 18th century. The two construction phases make it interesting for you if architecture and history are part of your holiday plans.

Casalzuigno is part of the Anulare Valcuviano, a network of hiking trails that runs through Valcuvia. The 3V – Via Verde Varesina passes through Casalzuigno on stages 3, 4 and 5, connecting the town with Santa Maria del Monte, Vararo and Muceno. From the hamlet of Aga, which belongs to Casalzuigno, further trails lead through extensive meadows and woodland. This gives you a network of trails, specific stages and different landscapes to choose from when planning your days.

Painted villages and sacred architecture

Arcumeggia was transformed into a painted village in 1956 and forms an open-air gallery with murals still visible today, created by nationally and internationally renowned artists. These include frescoes on the exterior walls of the houses and along the Stations of the Cross, which can still be seen there. Arcumeggia is also home to a small collection of plaster casts associated with the sculptor Giuseppe Vittorio Cerini; further works are preserved in the local cemetery.

The Chiesa Antica di San Vittore has a single-nave layout, side chapels and a square apse. It also features a large pronaos resting on arches and two columns, as well as a loggia painted with decorative motifs.

The present structure of the Oratorio di San Bernardino in Aga dates from the 12th century and is among the earliest Christian buildings in the valley. The frescoes are attributed to an anonymous painter known as the “Maestro di Aga”.

The area around Casalzuigno includes Villa Baumann and Palazzo Flaim, both palaces, as well as Chiostro di Voltorre and Museo Tattile Varese, both museums. The cultural offering therefore extends across different types of architecture and exhibitions.

The wider regional surroundings for choosing your destination

In the wider regional surroundings of Casalzuigno, you will find Spiaggia dei Caravalle, a beach. Poncione di Breno and Pizzo Marona, both peaks, are also located there, as is Monte Zeda, a mountain. The range therefore extends from a beach to prominent elevations.

When choosing a holiday apartment in Casalzuigno, you can weigh these priorities against one another: historic architecture, painted villages, sacred spaces, hiking trails through Valcuvia, the meadows and woodland of Aga, or the peaks in the wider regional surroundings. For a trip with children, you can arrange your daily activities according to the desired balance between exercise, architecture, painting and scenery. This allows you to base your accommodation choice on your personal travel interests.
