Isolino Virginia lies a few metres from the western shore of Lake Varese and is located in the municipality of Biandronno. On the island, the “Andrea Ponti” Archaeological Museum provides insights into life in the Neolithic period through original finds, reconstructions and immersive displays.
Villa Borghi houses the permanent “Collezione del Bianco Lombardo”, featuring 25 paintings by Antonio Pedretti for permanent public use. The Chiesa di San Lorenzo already existed as a chapel at the end of the 14th century; it was later expanded and altered and is now designed in the Neoclassical style. Its interiors are richly decorated with frescoes.

Villa Borghi di Biandronno was built on a small hill at the beginning of the 19th century and has a large park. From there, it offers sweeping views of Isolino Virginia and the Monte Rosa mountain range.
A famous puppeteer spent a large part of his life in Biandronno; the Teatro Gualberto Niemen bears his name. It is housed in the former headquarters of the Società Operaia Mutuo Soccorso, in a building from the beginning of the 20th century with an appealing eclectic façade. The theatre opened in 2009 and has 90 seats.

The basin of Lago di Biandronno is of postglacial origin and once formed part of a shared lake system with Lake Varese and Lake Comabbio. In the Lago di Biandronno nature reserve, the vegetation consists mainly of reeds and sedges. Rare plants such as sundews and marsh violets grow there; typical wetland birds also breed there.
