Besozzo lies between Lake Varese and Lake Maggiore in a hilly landscape. The Bardello stream runs through the town. This makes it a destination where culture, landscape and trails can be combined as different interests for each day. If you are looking for a holiday apartment in Besozzo, you can already set your preferred focus based on these themes.

Baroque, Local History and Theatre Culture

An important cultural attraction is the Church of Saints Alessandro and Tiburzio. It was rebuilt between 1618 and 1686 and is an example of Lombard Baroque. The interior is richly decorated with paintings and stucco. The barrel vault is covered with frescoes, while the wooden pulpit and wooden choir are artistically carved. For culture-focused days, this place of worship offers many specific details to take time to appreciate.

Besozzo Superiore preserves buildings that were inhabited by the noble Besozzi and Castelbesozzo families during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The Church of Sant'Antonio is also part of the town's history: it already existed in the 15th century and was restored towards the end of the 18th century. In the Oratorio di San Nicone, frescoes and ornaments left behind by noble families from the surrounding area decorate the interior. Above the main altar, a display case contains the relics of the saint.

The Teatro Duse also adds its own cultural accent. It was established as a multipurpose hall in 2007, has 224 seats and has hosted performances of various kinds, concerts, graduation ceremonies and lectures since 2007. Il Faro represents another form of remembrance. The war memorial was erected after the First World War; its construction began in 1923. It is dedicated to the 68 fallen soldiers from Besozzo and the 49 fallen soldiers from the formerly independent districts.

Trails Through the Landscape and Industrial History

The Sentiero del Verbano passes through Besozzo and is part of the Vie Verdi dei Laghi, which connects Sesto Calende with Laveno Mombello via ten municipalities. This means that a regional trail is as much part of the town's character as the hilly landscape and the Bardello. Those who enjoy combining different stages and landscape impressions during their holiday will find a clearly defined theme here for their own planning.

The Sentiero dei Mulini, trail VVL-F1, is 16.2 kilometres long, uses Besozzo as a central hub and connects historic factories and ice houses between Monvalle, Brebbia and Bardello. Cycle paths and footpaths also connect Besozzo with the route around Lake Varese and provide links towards Valcuvia and as far as Luino. The disused Cotonificio Cantoni–Copertificio Sonnino still preserves the system of locks and the footbridge over the Bardello.

The Museo Geologico Naturalistico L. Brunella is another special destination. Visits are available by prior request. This arrangement is just as relevant to your daily planning as the different trail lengths and themes: you can consciously schedule visits to the museum, local historical sites and active routes for different days of your holiday.
