Holiday apartment in Tresivio: Culture, Trails and History
Tresivio combines trails along the Rhaetian slope with striking religious buildings and unusual traces of history. Above Prasomaso, the Sentiero del Sole leads through the municipality. Its network of trails enables you to cross the Rhaetian slope continuously between Sondrio and Tirano, predominantly at elevations between 1,000 and 1,300 metres. Tresivio therefore offers an interesting combination of active days and cultural discoveries.
Trails for hiking and mountain biking
From Boirolo, an unpaved mule track leads to Alpe Rogneda and the municipal mountain huts at 2,200 metres. You can use this trail on foot or by mountain bike; motorised traffic is prohibited there. Depending on your travel plans, you can focus on longer trails along the slope or on a tour through higher-altitude landscapes. The different types of trails help you choose the right accommodation for your personal plans in Tresivio.
Santa Casa Lauretana and religious buildings
The Santa Casa Lauretana sanctuary was built as a votive offering between 1646 and 1790 after the plague of 1630. Inside, it houses an 18th-century replica of the Santa Casa of Nazareth. It stands in a large stucco-decorated display case and contains an image of the Black Madonna.
The parish church of Santissimi Pietro e Paolo also characterises the cultural identity of the village. It dates from the 13th century and was later remodelled. The Chiesetta del Calvario is the destination of a traditional Good Friday procession. This begins at the Santa Casa sanctuary and follows a route with several stations and iron crosses.
Calvario, stele and rural settlement centre
The path to the Chiesetta del Calvario leads from the ancient Piazza Fontana to the top of the Calvario rock in less than 15 minutes. From there, it offers a 360-degree panorama. Castello-Calvario di Tresivio is one of the strategically located hilltop settlements dominating the Valtellina valley that were partially resettled in the Middle Ages with towers or castles.
A particularly notable historical trace is the Stele di Tresivio: The stele bearing Rhaetian writing was found in Tresivio on 31 March 1851 and is considered one of the most archaeologically and historically significant discoveries in the entire Alpine region. In the rural settlement centre of S. Antonio, you can see traditional rural buildings. The ground floors contain stables, the first floors living quarters and the attics haylofts.
