Holiday apartment in Montespluga – hiking, lakes and the ViaSpluga
Hiking between Lago d’Emet and Lago Nero
Around Montespluga, trails lead to lakes, across pastures and into higher elevations. A hike to Lago d’Emet starts from Località Stuetta in Montespluga. It is classified as moderately difficult, takes one and a half hours and has 264 m of positive elevation gain. The route follows Lago di Montespluga and climbs across pastures to the Andossi ridge. The duration of one and a half hours and the positive elevation gain of 264 m provide a clear time and elevation framework for the section to the lake. From Lago d’Emet, the route can be continued to Passo Niemet or descended to Madesimo. Choosing between these two directions changes the further scope of the excursion from Lago d’Emet onward.
The hike to Lago Nero begins in Montespluga, takes one hour and has 402 m of positive elevation gain. The trail climbs near the viaduct at Lago di Montespluga through pastureland towards the Suretta waterfalls. A longer tour leads to Bivacco Val Loga. It is classified as difficult, takes three hours and has 865 m of positive elevation gain. The trail requires a certain level of technical preparation and leads from gentle pastures with several watercourses over steep switchbacks into higher elevations. Between Lago Nero and Bivacco Val Loga, both the time frame and the ascent and terrain therefore change. A day plan in Montespluga can consequently distinguish between the route to the Suretta waterfalls and the technically demanding trail over the switchbacks to Bivacco Val Loga.
ViaSpluga, chapel and winter activities
On its Italian section, the ViaSpluga passes through Montespluga and follows an old Alpine link route that has been used to cross the Alps since Roman times. The small village is home to a chapel dedicated to Saint Francis of Assisi. Rietberg Castle is located in the wider regional surroundings of Montespluga. The ViaSpluga and the chapel refer to the small village, while Rietberg Castle is located in the wider regional surroundings.
On the Piana di Montespluga, you can move across snowy areas on skis or a snowboard and with an inflatable power kite controlled by gusts of wind. The winter activity on the Piana differs from hiking because of the snowy surface and movement with a wind-controlled power kite.
Peaks around Montespluga
The Piz Spadolazzo peak is located in the immediate surroundings of Montespluga. The peaks Rotgrind, Pizzo Ferrè and Guglie d'Altare are also located in the surrounding area. The spatial references of the peaks therefore range from the immediate surroundings to the wider area around Montespluga.
