Corna: Mountain Views, Culture and Pizzoccheri
Corna amid Mountain Views and Valtellina Culture
The landscape can be explored through specific panoramas as well as the valley’s vineyard terraces. Buildings and museums in the municipality of Teglio offer cultural variety, while typical dishes such as sciatt and pizzoccheri are part of the experience at the Corna restaurant.
Easy Hiking Route and Wide-Ranging Views
The easy La Piana–Corna Marinella hiking route is one of the easier trails in the municipality of Teglio. Along the route, you reach the barrier at the beginning of the Pista Forestale della Corna Marinella forest track. From the route, the Adamello Group can be seen to the southeast between the peaks of the Orobic chain. The route also offers a view of Monte Cancano.
From La Corna, the view extends over the Adda River and the Orobic side of the valley opposite. On the Rhaetian side of the Valtellina valley, the vineyard terraces stretch for approximately 40 kilometres, while the dry-stone walls run for more than 2,500 kilometres. From the upper terrace of the Torre “de li Beli Miri”, the view extends for approximately 60 kilometres.
Palazzo Besta, San Pietro and Mulino Menaglio
The municipality of Teglio is home to Palazzo Besta, a Renaissance palace. The ground floor houses the Antiquarium Tellinum, a collection of engraved stelae from the Copper Age. The Church of San Pietro was built in the 11th century and features Romanesque architecture influenced by the Como-Ticino style.
Mulino Menaglio is the best-preserved example of the typical watermills that were once widespread throughout the area. The mill houses a small museum about agricultural work and dietary habits related to grain cultivation. Visiting the interior of the Torre “de li Beli Miri”, on the other hand, is subject to a specific restriction: it is limited to special events.
Sport Climbing and Valtellina Cuisine
The municipality of Teglio is also home to the Falesia di Castelvetro, where sport climbing is possible. In culinary terms, Teglio is considered the home of pizzoccheri; the dish is regarded as a defining feature of the typical local cuisine.
