Campodolcino combines striking natural scenery, historic routes, culture and sporting activities. The Caurga della Rabbiosa is a deep gorge carved by the Rabbiosa mountain stream; a 70-metre-long and 45-metre-high Tibetan bridge is located there. Acqua Merla, a green park with water features and opportunities for outdoor relaxation, is near the centre. Acqua Merla is also home to the “Serpentone”, a long water channel with bends, small tunnels and gentle gradients.

Changes in elevation and historic routes

Sky Express is an underground funicular railway connecting Campodolcino at 1,082 metres with the hamlet of Motta at 1,721 metres. ViaSpluga plays a particularly important role for hiking and cultural interests: its Italian section runs through Campodolcino. The approximately 70-kilometre-long historic hiking trail connects Thusis in Switzerland with Chiavenna and follows an ancient transport route that has been used to cross the Alps since Roman times.

Active experiences in the surrounding area

SplugaPark adventure park is located in the Mottala basin of Campodolcino between the villages of Fraciscio and Gualdera. Its facilities include Tibetan bridges, suspended walkways, zip lines, ropes, nets and tree-to-tree courses. The Angeloga Loop leads through Campodolcino and Fraciscio and continues to Alpe Angeloga. For cyclists, the “Anello ciclabile Campodolcino–Isola–Pian dei Cavalli–Campodolcino” circular route is interesting: it passes through Isola and Starleggia and returns to Campodolcino.

Pian dei Cavalli adds its own perspective on the landscape and culture. The extensive high plateau encompasses pastures, limestone rocks, caves and sinkholes. At the same time, it is an archaeological site where traces of Mesolithic hunter groups have been found. This brings together nature observation, physical activity and a glimpse into the history of early settlement on one trip.

Culture in the hamlet of Corti

MUVIS is housed in a historic 16th-century building in the hamlet of Corti in Campodolcino. Its exhibition rooms cover traditional crafts, winter tourism, the typical home, women’s work, historic games and transport along ViaSpluga. MUVIS is dedicated to the history and culture of a valley traversed by ViaSpluga.
