The landscape of the Rhaetian slopes around Ardenno is shaped by vineyard terraces. The DOC wine-growing zone of Valtellina Superiore also begins within the municipality of Ardenno. Historic buildings and trails complement the region’s wine landscape with specific destinations for different days.

Churches and historic buildings in Ardenno

The Collegiata di San Lorenzo stands in the centre of Ardenno. It was built in 1497 and altered several times over the centuries.

The furnishings of the Collegiata include a wooden altarpiece. Giovanni Angelo Del Mayno carved it, while Battista da Leganano painted it in 1539–1540. In this work, carving and painting stand side by side.

The Caneva vescovile was formerly the residence of the representatives of the Bishop of Como. It preserves medieval architectural structures and part of a 15th-century tower.

On Via Cavour, Palazzo Parravicini-Zaccaria has an ancient portal. It leads into a column-supported atrium overlooking the garden below.

The Chiesa Vegia chapel in Piazzalunga contains a cycle of folk-style paintings from the late 15th century. The depicted motifs include a Crucifixion and saints, the Last Supper, and a Madonna and Child with saints.

The parish church of Santa Maria Assunta in Biolo was built around the middle of the 15th century and extended in 1613.

Its interior contains a Nativity scene from the 15th century and three works by Pietro Ligari.

The Santuario di S. Gottardo was built at the beginning of the 18th century.

Sentiero Valtellina and Il Sentiero dei Cincet

At kilometre 25.2 of the Sentiero Valtellina is the Ardenno–Canale Enel rest area. At kilometre 24.5 is the Chiosco del Ponte – Ardenno refreshment station.

A section of the Ardenno–Paniga variant of the Sentiero Valtellina is temporarily impassable. The diversion begins after passing under the SS38, near a snack bar or kiosk.

In 2000, the municipality of Ardenno organised the circular route Il Sentiero dei Cincet using pre-existing trails. The circular route incorporates the local heritage of folk religious art and culture.

The circular route Il Sentiero dei Cincet starts at Ardenno Town Hall. There, the first sign points towards San Lucio–Piazzalunga.
