Sesto San Giovanni combines the landscape of Parco Nord with cultural and industrial heritage.

Parco Nord and paths for active days

The Clerici footbridge connects the northern and southern areas of Parco Nord. Another important link is the Fulvio Testi footbridge: it leads from Villa Torretta and the densely built-up urban area of Sesto San Giovanni to the existing network of paths in Parco Nord and to other municipal cycle paths.

The Carroponte is a defining feature of the extensive industrial archaeological park of the former Breda Siderurgica site in Sesto San Giovanni, on the border with Milan. The Carroponte was restored and converted into an international concert arena.

Until the 1940s, the Teatrino Breda was a travelling crane belonging to Breda Aeronautica, used to unload combustion residues from blast furnaces; it was renovated in 1994. Today, the Teatrino Breda hosts music, theatre and dance performances and is a freely accessible venue.

The industrial heritage also includes the Breda bunkers at Via Clerici 150 in Sesto San Giovanni. These are air-raid shelters belonging to Breda’s V. Sezione Aeronautica.

Villas, gardens and historic spaces

Villa Visconti d’Aragona is a protected historic property and houses the central library of Sesto San Giovanni. Villa Zorn combines elements of Neoclassicism and Neo-Renaissance; the villa’s large park is now a public garden.

In the 16th century, Villa Torretta was a magnificent country residence for Milanese aristocrats. Its original frescoes are an important testimony to 18th-century Milanese painting and have been returned to their original rooms. The Basilica di Santo Stefano already provides a clear historical point of reference: construction began on 19 October 1884 with the laying of the foundation stone.

Museums, projections and unique cultural attractions

Casa del Parco is a museum with an advanced video projection system that guides visitors through the sites and historical phases of development of Parco Nord Milano. Immersive projections also convey the natural ecosystems and historic sites of the protected area.

Galleria Campari is located in a Liberty-style building in Sesto San Giovanni. This building was the first Campari factory, opened by Davide Campari in 1904. Today, Galleria Campari is an interactive and multimedia corporate museum. Its focus is the relationship between the brand and art and design, its history, and the development of the product and bar culture. The historical archive contains more than 3,000 paper works, Belle Époque posters, advertising graphics, advertising films and design objects.

The three main elements of the Monumento al Deportato are a staircase, a stele and an arch. A commemorative ceremony is held there every year on 25 April.
