Peglio is located at the entrance to the Piana di Livo in the Valle del Liro, above Gravedona and below the slopes of Sasso Pelo.

Contrade, Stone Houses and Sacred Art

The inhabited village of Peglio still preserves a dense structure of contrade and stone houses. This combination shapes the character of the village and gives a holiday apartment in Peglio a cultural setting if you want to discover not only nature but also well-established village structures.

The parish church of Sant’Eusebio e Vittore is the centrepiece of the ecclesiastical heritage. It was rebuilt between 1607 and 1613; the presbytery contains frescoes and stucco work from 1614, including large depictions of the Last Judgment. In the hamlet of Argesio, an exterior fresco of the Madonna between Saint Charles Borromeo and Saint Catherine can be found on a house. According to documents from the 19th century, this fresco bears a signature from 1619 by Fiammenghino.

If you plan to visit S. Eusebio as part of the Chiese Aperte programme, it is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 15:00 to 17:30 until 14 September 2026.

Hiking Between Stages and Mountain Destinations

For hiking planning, Stage 4 of the Via dei Monti Lariani is an important reference point. It is approximately 50 kilometres long and divided into two stages. The stage from Peglio to Sorico is approximately 26 kilometres long, takes around 8 hours and 30 minutes, and includes 626 metres of elevation gain. The different route details help you distinguish a longer sequence of trails from an individual stage when comparing the location of your holiday apartment with your hiking plans.

A road from Peglio towards Livo passes the 17th-century Oratorio Madonna di Gorghiglio. In addition, a hiking route from Bodone continues via Alpe Paregna towards Monte Duria. These two routes offer different perspectives on the landscape without becoming a single shared trail.

Regional Destinations and Orientation

The peaks of Monte l'Usciolo, Monte La Nava, Punta Rasella and Sasso Canale are located in the immediate surroundings of Peglio. Further afield in the region are Castello Sasso Corbaro, the Museo Moto Guzzi, the Bellinzona Monastery and the church of Abbazia di San Pietro in Vallate. When choosing accommodation, you can place the desired focus between village culture, mountain landscapes and regional cultural destinations at the forefront of your planning.

For arrival orientation: Peglio and Livo can be reached from Dongo by ASF Autolinee bus line C18.
