Holiday apartment in Cantù: Galliano and visiting hours

The monumental Galliano complex is located in the village of the same name in Cantù, in an area of moraine hills. The Basilica di San Vincenzo a Galliano was consecrated on 2 July 1007 and dedicated to Saint Vincent.

The following public visiting hours currently apply to the Basilica di San Vincenzo a Galliano: Thursday and Friday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., and Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. From November to February, the hours are 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Saturdays, and 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Sundays.

Churches, frescoes and lace-making

The Basilica di San Paolo was built at the end of the 11th century. The lower section of the bell tower of the Basilica di San Paolo dates back to a stone tower belonging to Pietrasanta Castle. The Cappella della Madonnina contains archaeological remains from the first centuries of Christianity, as well as frescoes by Ambrogio da Vigevano and Cristoforo Motti dating from 1514.

The Santuario della Madonna dei Miracoli was consecrated on 11 May 1555. It is linked to a miracle story passed down from the mid-16th century, associated with the image of Santa Maria Bella. Lace-making is also one of Cantù’s defining cultural traditions: it developed significantly in the manufactories of the late 18th century and the following century. Lacework occupied entire generations of women and supplemented family income.

A musical highlight is the International Piano and Orchestra Competition “Città di Cantù”, organised every year by the Nuova Scuola di Musica.

Parco Argenti and choosing your accommodation
