Between Hillside Landscapes and the Historic Town Centre

A holiday apartment in Siviano takes you to a place whose character is shaped by both its landscape and its history. Siviano stretches along a north-east-facing, terraced hillside between vineyards and olive trees. In the historic centre, a long, largely straight main street defines the townscape; the oldest houses are located along it.

Tower, Church and Old Houses

The medieval Martinengo Tower dominates Siviano. Another distinctive landmark is the parish church of Chiesa dei Santi Faustino e Giovita: it was built in the 16th century and rebuilt on the same site between 1735 and 1754. This creates a compact cultural focus that can be easily combined with a leisurely exploration of the town centre.

Net-Making History at the Harbour

The harbour of Siviano is a special point of interest for anyone interested in local work and tradition. The Museo della Rete is housed in Monte Isola's oldest factory still in operation, the La Rete Srl net factory at the harbour of Siviano. The Museo della Rete also includes a typical fishing boat of the naèt type.

Routes with Different Focal Points

The small harbour of Siviano can be reached in a few minutes via a path branching off from the town. Anyone wishing to take into account both the straight main street with the oldest houses and the small harbour when choosing accommodation in Siviano can include the short route in their daily plans. The traditional circular route also includes a stop in Siviano. There, an information board tells a legend about the island's nets and links the local history with a storytelling stop in the landscape.

The traditional circular route also leads to Porto di Siviano. The island's largest net factory and one of the island's few remaining net factories are located there. The „Andiamo in rete“ experience offers a different way of experiencing the area: first, a museum about the history of the area's nets and net-making is visited, followed by the creation of an object from cord and netting.

Hike to Ceriola

The routes towards Santuario della Ceriola also provide a distinctly more active focus. From Cure, a partly steep ascent leads to Santuario della Ceriola in 20 minutes. The indication of a few minutes describes the short connection to the harbour; the 20 minutes, by contrast, refer to the partly steep ascent from Cure and not to the entire hiking route from Siviano. The hiking route from Siviano via Cure to Santuario della Ceriola passes beneath the parish church of Chiesa dei Santi Faustino e Giovita. In this way, the route connects the town, its church and the ascent in a single walking route. For daily planning, the cultural stops in Siviano and the partly steep ascent from Cure can be regarded as separate focal points of a route.
