Art and sacred history in Pisogne

The Chiesa di Santa Maria della Neve was built in the 15th century on the northern outskirts of Pisogne. Between 1532 and 1534, Girolamo Romani (Romanino) frescoed its walls, chancel arch and counter-facade. The fresco cycle culminates in the Crucifixion on the counter-facade. At the Pieve di Santa Maria in Silvis, you can descend below the church floor and visit some of the rooms. The portal sculpture from 1485 is signed by Damiano da Milano.

Mirad’Or in Pisogne on Lake Iseo is a museum on the water and a contemporary exhibition space in the form of a modern stilt-house structure. Exhibitions and contemporary art projects take place there in dialogue with the lake, history and the community. The Parco Comunale covers 16,000 square metres and features a great variety of conifers, including some rare species.

Lakeside areas and trails for active days

On the lakeshore lies Lungolago Tempini, a more than one-kilometre-long lakeside promenade designed entirely for pedestrians and cyclists. For a longer stretch along the water, the Toline–Vello cycle and pedestrian path runs between Toline, a hamlet of Pisogne, and Vello in Marone. It can be used on foot or by bicycle, follows the waterfront and includes tunnels and rest areas.

From the centre of Pisogne, the first section of the Antica Strada Valeriana leads through chestnut woods. It is part of a 25-kilometre-long trail, mostly offering panoramic views, along the eastern shore area of the lake. The Antica Strada Valeriana is considered a pilgrimage and devotional route because it is characterised by churches, pilgrimage churches, hermitages and chapels.

Routes in Val Palot and Toline

There are several different destinations for mountain days. The circular route from Val Palot to Rifugio Medelet begins in the heart of Val Palot and leads to Rifugio Medelet. The route follows the Pizzacane stream to Roccolo Laini and then continues along trail 201 to Rifugio Medelet. The circular route from Toline, a hamlet of Pisogne, leads to the summit of Corna Trentapassi. A short via ferrata runs along the summit ridge; it is not particularly difficult technically but requires demanding equipment and is recommended for experienced hikers.

The Chiesa di San Gregorio Magno is also located in Toline. It was originally an old chapel and was converted into a parish church in the 15th century. For practical orientation in the historic town centre, the Pisogne Infopoint provides information about excursions, cycling and trekking routes, events, transport and road conditions.
