Gottolengo combines ecclesiastical and architectural history with regional gastronomy. The Chiesa di San Lorenzo is located in the historic centre; other buildings in the town include the Chiesa parrocchiale dei SS. Pietro e Paolo, the Santuario dell'Incidella, the Teatro Zanardelli, the Cascina fortificata and the Castellaro. These are joined by the Sagra della Patata e dei Sapori di Gottolengo and the “Isorella – Solaro – Castelletto – Gottolengo” cycling route.

Churches and historical layers in the centre

The Chiesa di San Lorenzo is located in the historic centre of Gottolengo, near Piazza XX Settembre. It was completed in 1715, replacing a chapel built around 1630 in memory of those who died in the plague. Exhibitions and cultural events are held in the Chiesa di San Lorenzo. San Lorenzo thus combines the memory of those who died in the plague with cultural events.

The Chiesa parrocchiale dei SS. Pietro e Paolo has a single-nave interior with side chapels and wall paintings. Its two-storey façade is articulated with Composite pilasters; above it is a triangular pediment with acroteria. Inside are the side chapels and wall paintings, while the exterior features the Composite pilasters and the pediment with acroteria.

The Convento di San Girolamo was established in the late 15th century as a Carmelite monastery. After its dissolution in 1797, the Convento was converted into a civilian hospital. The transition from Carmelite monastery to civilian hospital is part of the history of the Convento.

Religious sites and secular architectural heritage

The Santuario dell'Incidella is also known as Santa Maria in Scutella and Santa Maria della Scodella. It was built in the 17th century over an older chapel. A traditional account of a healing miracle from 1653 prompted the construction of the Santuario dell'Incidella. Its construction over the older chapel connects the Santuario with an earlier religious building.

Another architectural landmark is the Cascina fortificata. It was built in the 16th century by the nobles of the Rodengo family.

Culture, gastronomy and special dates

The Teatro Zanardelli is a cultural centre in Gottolengo and a destination for art enthusiasts. At the same time, it is an Art Nouveau building.

The Sagra della Patata e dei Sapori di Gottolengo will take place from 4 September to 6 September 2026 as its 24th edition. The event presents the potato as a typical product of the area; it can be sampled in dishes from the local cuisine. For travel planning in September 2026, the Sagra is a clearly defined date.

Bronze Age and cycling route

The Castellaro di Gottolengo is considered a typical example of a Bronze Age settlement. For cycling enthusiasts, the “Isorella – Solaro – Castelletto – Gottolengo” route passes through Gottolengo. Cyclists can therefore include Gottolengo as part of this route in their day planning.
